Gangabishan Bhikulal Investment and Trading Limited (GBIT) is a certified company established in 1996 under the companies act, 1956. Its founder and honorable Chairman,Dr. Badrinarayan Ramulal Barwale, is the founder of Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company Limited (MAHYCO)- a pioneer in high quality hybrid / open-pollinated seeds. He is also a World Food Prize Laureate awarded by World Food Prize Foundation, USA in 1998 and a recipient of the Padma Bhushan Award by the President of India in 2001 for his distinguished services of high order contribution in the field of agricultural development, trade and economic activity.

Presently, GBIT is focusing on establishing Research and Development and investing in and incubating novel ideas related to human health and agriculture. Its mission is to identify and invest in relevant environmentally friendly technologies that can have a significant impact on health and agricultural productivity in the country, especially in the control of vector insects of human diseases like dengue / chikungunya / malaria and pest insects of agriculture importance. GBIT has access to expertise to drive such technologies and already developed a contained laboratory facility for conducting research activities.

GBIT is working in collaboration with OXITEC (Oxford Insect Technologies) Limited, a UK based company, to drive an effective and environmentally - friendly technologies (Self-limiting technology) for the control of Aedes. aegypti mosquitoes that carry dengue, chikungunya and zika virus in India. OXITEC Limited a private company is a spinout from Oxford University in UK. Oxitec has developed proprietary SELF LIMITING technology which is based on advances in molecular biology and genetics. Oxitec'srecord of innovation and practical application have built a reputation as the world's leading insect genetics company. The technology is believed to be highly compatible and effective with integrated vector management strategies especially against Ae. aegypti.
